Dear Baby Boy,
Today is your due date, meaning that it is time for you to leave the comforts of mommy’s belly, and join this world. I know that may sound like a scary prospect, but we are very excited to meet you, and are ready for you to come. The bathrooms are clean, mommy’s hospital bag is packed, and all or your clothes are washed and waiting for you. I even repainted my toenails today! Your big sister Makenna is very excited to meet you too. She loves babies, and talks about holding and rocking you.
If you could make your way into our family during the next few days, that would be great! Daddy appreciates that you waited to come until after his final that he took yesterday, but he would really like it if you came before his Case Competition which starts on Thursday. In fact, your Grandma Debbie is coming tonight to be here to help mommy, so we if you wanted to come tonight or tomorrow, that would be perfect. (And I’m not just saying that because I am ready to be done being pregnant, and I can’t stand the thought of wearing any of my maternity clothes any longer, although that is true too.)
Your daddy and I will take good care of you, and give you lots of hugs and kisses!

Halloween
John and I have decided that having a 2 year old makes holidays such as Halloween so much fun. Last year John was out of town, and Makenna and I didn't do much to celebrate, but this year was a different story. We have had such a fun weekend with Makenna, and have loved watching her experience Halloween for the "first" time.
Last night we had our ward Halloween party, and Makenna was able to wear her ladybug costume that her Grandma CeCe sent for her. John decided that he wanted to dress up as a certain Twilight character (the glitter was all his idea). He got a lot of laughs and comments out of his costume. I stole my idea from a friend who turned her pregnant belly into a pumpkin last Halloween (thanks!).
Since it was raining, the trunk-or-treat was moved inside, and although it was her first time trick-or-treating, Makenna quickly caught on, and was so excited to get candy for her pumpkin.

Today was rain-free, so we were able to spend our evening outside.
We started the night off at a neighborhood BBQ. (Have I mentioned that I love where we live?)
Makenna with a neighborhood friend who was also dressed up as a ladybug.
After the BBQ, the real fun began. Makenna LOVED trick-or-treating with John. She wouldn't always say "trick-or-treat", but did always say thank you after getting candy.
After Makenna was done trick-or-treating, she played outside for awhile with her ladybug friend.
Again we ended the night with Makenna enjoying looking at all of the candy that she got, and eating way too much of it.
I am happy that I didn't miss out on the fun by being in the hospital, but now I am ready for this baby to come. Hopefully the next time I post it will be to share pictures of our newest family member...wish me luck!

My (almost) 2 Year Old
I thought that since the baby is coming soon (hopefully!) that I should post a few things about Makenna since I'm sure once the baby comes, my blog will be overrun with pictures of him.
This month, I have discovered a new love of Makenna's...JUMPING! A local gymnastics studio was offering free gym playtime this month, and so we have been going as often as possible, and Makenna absolutely loves it. She loves everything about it...jumping on the trampolines, walking on the balance beams, jumping into the big pit, and hanging on the bars. She usually leaves the gym with red cheeks from going non-stop.

This picture was taken right after Makenna got jumped on while she was in the pit. She was crying, and didn't want me to console her, but quit crying once this little boy came to her rescue.
(You'll notice that the same boy is in all of these pictures because Makenna followed him around the whole time we were at the gym the day I brought my camera. He is in our ward and neighborhood, and she pretty much adores him; along with all of her other friends she has made here in Bloomington.)
Makenna's current favorite movie is The Testaments! (Surprised?...I was)
Makenna had a runny nose on Sunday, and since we weren't able to take her to nursery, John stayed home with her. When I came home, I found them sitting on the couch watching "The Jesus Movie" as Makenna now calls it. It was the first time that she had seen The Testaments, and she loved it! She loves the monkey, and talks about how Jesus makes the "ouchies all gone". She asked to watch it again later that night, and it is now the only movie that she wants to watch. John and I thought that it would be a good idea to only let her watch it on Sundays, but I can't talk her into watching any other movie right now, so she watched it yesterday, and again today. I would have never thought that it would be a movie that she would like at her age, but I guess you never can tell with 2 year olds.
Makenna is such a fun, happy, talkitive little girl, and I am trying to soak in as much one-on-one time with her as I can before the baby comes.

Fall Festivities
The leaves are starting to turn colors, the weather is getting cooler, and I have already gone through two bags of candy corn...must be FALL!
On Saturday, we participated in our Ward temple trip down to the Louisville, KY Temple. It is our closest temple, and although it was a 2 hour drive, it was definitely worth the trip. On the way home, we stopped at a cute little pumpkin stand off the side of the road. Makenna loved helping John pick out our pumpkins, and then pulling them to the car in the cute wagons provided.
Tonight John had to study (story of his life right now) but Makenna and I went with some friends to a really fun Kelley Kids activity which consisted of a hay rack ride, and a bonfire with smores. The weather was perfect, and it was a great way to pass the time while John was studying.

New Baby!
No...not mine (although I wish mine were here too).
My sister just had her baby girl yesterday, and I am so happy to report that both mom and baby Gabbriella are doing great. Seeing pictures of this sweet newborn and hearing her in the background while talking to my sister on the phone are making me so excited for my little guy to get here. I won't be able to meet Gabbriella until Christmas, but am so excited to have her as my newest niece.
In other baby news, I watched the craziest TV show tonight called "I Didn't Know I was Pregnant" on TLC. The show is about women who don't know that they are pregnant until they go into labor!! One woman didn't even know until AFTER she delivered her baby. It seems impossible to me for someone to not know they are pregnant, but then again I guess not all women are lucky enough to sport the "basketball" stomach at the end of their pregnancy! (Sorry for the bad picture...John was at school.)

Sleeping...or playing?
I used to think that the time Makenna spent in her crib was spent sleeping, but I am now learning that this is not always the case. There have been numerous times since we moved here that I will hear Makenna just talking long after I put her down for bed. It has made me wonder how long and how often she just plays in her crib before she goes to sleep.
Last night, I put Makenna down at 9:00, and she was quiet until about 10:00 when I heard her start to cry. I thought maybe she was just waking up a little bit and would go back to sleep, but after a few more minutes of crying, I decided to go in and check on her. What I found was surprising, and pretty funny. She was standing there in her diaper, with her pajamas on the other side of the crib! As soon as I walked in the room, she started jumping up and down, so I am pretty sure that she hadn't gone to sleep at all yet, but had just been playing for the last hour. I was too surprised and amused to be upset with her, but instead just got her dressed, and rocked and sang to her for a few minutes before putting her back down. I just hope she is potty trained before she learns to take off her diapers...I have heard horror stories about that!

First Prayers
For a long time now we have been involving Makenna in our family prayers at night, by having her kneel and fold her arms while we pray. For awhile she loved this and would happily join us saying a loud amen at the end of the prayer, but lately she has been more interested in continuing to do whatever it was she was doing before (most often reading books) than participating. In an attempt to get her excited again, we started having Makenna say the prayer (with a little help).
Here was her prayer last night:
Father (Heavenly Father)
Than tum (thank you) ma ma
Than tum da da
Than tum baby
Yes (agreeing with a statement I made as a prompt)
Yes
Jesus
Amen
There are some moments that happen as a parent that you know you will remember and cherish. Hearing my sweet little girl's first prayers is one of those moments.
